MISSION
 

The WHO Collaborating Centre for Food and Nutrition Policies in Athens, Greece contributes to nutritional epidemiological research and formation of nutrition policies in Greece and other countries.

Established in 1990, the Centre collaborates closely with Greek and international governmental and non-governmental organisations in order to advance the objectives of WHO for healthy nutrition and appropriate food policies.

The Centre’s faculty and collaborators have made important research contributions, mostly in the area of nutrition epidemiology of cancer and cardiovascular diseases and have assisted the Greek government in setting dietary guidelines for adults in Greece.



 

 

The WHO Collaborating Centre for Food and Nutrition Policies in Athens, Greece:

Supports WHO and Member States in the development of :

-food and nutrition policy design
-national and international surveillance systems on food availability and consumption

Supports WHO in the assessment of the adequacy of the dietary intake of the general population in Member States

Works on the assessment of the impact of eating out (meals taken outside home) on the obesity epidemic

Provides training for health professionals on nutrition, physical activity and noncommunicable disease risk factors in WHO Member States

Assesses the nutritional properties of traditional foods and evaluates their role in modern nutrition
